Fishing Report - April 14, 2007
Today I had the pleasure of fishing with two of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Yvonne and Mike Derr joined us for our last official trip aboard the Billy V. We headed out of Fair Haven at 7:00am, and found the lake to be pretty whipped up and bumpy. We were looking at 3-5' footers, but the Derr's were up to the challenge. We headed East out of the chute and trolled all the way down to West Nine Mile, with only a few releases to show for our efforts. Yvonne was beginning to turn green, so we decided to head back and fish in the bay for a bit to help ease her sea-sickness. We pulled the gear in and ran the 15 minutes back to port. Just as we were headed into the cut, Yvonne turns to me and says "I feel a lot better. Let's try and stay out to fish." She didn't have to ask twice as I pulled a quick u-turn and got us set up out front. We started a troll towards Blind Sodus and started marking fish out over 20-50 FOW, but we couldn't get them to go. I think at one point we were something like 0 for 5 before I decided to go in a little closer and change over to green Kaboom shiners and chartreuse J-9 Rapalas. Once we got into 15-20 FOW, all hell broke loose. We had found the mother-lode of active, feeding browns! Over the next 90 minutes or so, we boated 10 healthy browns ranging from 3-8 lbs, and lost at least another 5 or 6 more. The fish came off of flat lines, planer boards, downriggers, and a two color core. We took them on the above mentioned sticks, as well as Northern King Mulatto and Glow Frog spoons. Depths on the riggers were anywhere from 5-10 ft. down, and the fish liked a slower troll of 1.75-2.25mph. When we boated our last fish of the day, we had 7 rods in the boat in various states of disarray, stick baits stuck in nets (and the bottom of Yvonne's shoe!), fishing line everywhere, and fish all over the floor of the boat. We had just been through what you'd call a Chinese Fire Drill. What mayhem!! It happened so fast and furious for us that it was all I could do to keep our lines in the water. At one point during this brown-fest, we actually had 5 fish on at once. Yvonne and Mike saw both sides of Lake Ontario trolling today. In the morning they saw how slow and frustrating it can be, and in the afternoon they saw how utterly fantastic it can be! I'm glad they got the chance to spend the day with us and am definitely looking forward to having them out on the new Billy V for another day of Lake Ontario craziness! Thanks for a fun day guys!

Mike and I want to thank Captain Bill for a GREAT time! We had so much fun! Despite a little sea sickness, the company was great and it turned out to be a really fun and exciting day! As you can see from the photos, we were bundled up for the weather but we were having so much fun, we didn't even think much about the cold! We are really looking forward to the next trip! Thanks again to Captain Bill and his dad for a fantastic trip on Lake Ontario!

Billy, don't change anything. You help a lot of people at this kind of fishing. You have helped myself a lot. I caught fish on your way of fishin and it is the way it's I fish now. I went from not being able to catch fish to being able to catch them. Have a Merry Christmas. Oh by the way congrats on the big buck down. I got my first 8 to this year. I wish you still did spoons, you know which ones I'm talking about .
Take it easy.
See you on the water.
