Fishing Report - June 17, 2007
The fishing out of Fair Haven continues to be fantastic! Limit catches of browns are the norm these days. The browns are being targeted in anywhere from 25-75 FOW and are taking Dave's KA-BOOM Shiners in black/silver when fished off of planer boards with a piece of splitshot in front of them to help get them a bit deeper. They're also taking spoons form various manufacturers such as Northern King, Dreamweaver, and R&R in frog, spook, mulatto, and 42nd spoon patterns. Every day has been a little bit different, but on most days the browns have been very receptive.

A typical Fair Haven summertime brown.
Once the morning brown bite slows down, most guys have been sliding out a bit deeper to take advantage of what has been one of the best steelhead bites we've had in years. The chromers have been taking KA-BOOM Shiners, Smithwick, and Rapala stickbaits along with spoons in the typical steelhead patterns (basically anything in orange, red, or bright pink).
The Kings have begun showing up, and when guys have found them they've been taking Siggs Rigs flys (the Green Hypnotist, Green Dolphin, and Blue Dolphin have been hot colors) behind Spin Dr. and Pro-Chip flashers as well as spoons from the above mentioned manufacturers. We're not into full-on King mode yet, but when we are you'd better be sure you have your Daiwa SG47LCA reel and Heartland rod rigged and ready! The Kings will be getting bigger every day, and it won't be long before we're talking about 25lb Kings being the average size fish we're taking. When a big King almost spools all 1,000' of wire on your reel, you'd better be sure your tackle is up to the test.
I've been in FL for the past week and then put some of the finishing touches on the boat after I got back. Today I spent the afternoon taking the old speed & temp probe off and replacing it with our new Depth Raider. Man, is that thing slick!

The new Depth Raider proudly perched at the helm and ready for action!
We'll be back out after 'em again this week and again next weekend. After that, we head to MI to visit some family for a week and to do some fishing with Shane from Dreamweaver. I'm looking forward to getting out of town for a while with my wife and kids and taking a day to enjoy some fishing on Lake Michigan. Once we get back from our vacation, it'll be full-tilt for us as we fish the Wayne County Pro-Am in Sodus and then get into King fishing every day that my schedule allows. It's gonna be a GREAT summer fishery this year....I can just feel it!
Give me a call at (607)257-1804 (home) or (607)592-9012 (boat) or email me at capt.bill@billyvsportfishing.com to make reservations for your 2007 charter out on beautiful Lake Ontario.
