Fishing Report June 19, 2007
Today I got out with my good friends Matt and Jay for a nice morning of brown trout, steelhead, and salmon fishing. We got to Shawn's Marina at 4:15am (I know, I know......that's EARLY, but you gotta do what you gotta do to catch the fish!!) and got the Penn Yan all rigged up and ready to go. Have I mentioned lately how much I like this new boat?? OK, so I'm a sucker for a great boat!!

Our first rods were in the water at 4:45am and within minutes were were doubled up on a pair of nice browns. These two fish came off of Dave's KA-BOOM deep shiners and regular shiners in silver/black. We were fishing in 30-60 FOW and found water temps of 58 degrees down 20 ft. Our trolling speed was 2.4mph as registered on our new Depth Raider.

Jay with a nice healthy June brown.

Matt with the other half of our double to start the day.
After that nice start, we settled into a nice pick with browns taking what is fast becoming one of my favorite spoons this year, the Dreamweaver 42nd spoon.

The new Daiwa Accudepth Plus reels have been working flawlessly this spring. Jay used one to land this fat brownie. We're looking forward to giving them a BIG workout when the Kings show up in a few weeks.
After we'd boated a few chunky browns, we talked it over and made the decision to pass up the great brown bite to head off shore in search of some silver fish. We're all dying to get into some big Kings. We changed up our program and began trolling out to deeper water in search of some good marks. When we got out to 130 FOW we found a screen that we liked an awful lot and we started working that water pretty hard. We were rewarded for our patience with a beautiful steelhead and a small king. The steelhead took an R&R watermelon/grape dots spoon fished off of the down riggers set down 20 feet. Our down speed was 2.5mph for both of those fish.

After that, we had to head in as I got a call that the village was out paving the street in front of the marina and they needed me to move my truck.

I guess it all worked out OK, as the weather began to move in and we would've had to call it a day anyway. I really enjoyed my day with Matt & Jay and look forward to fishing with them again sometime soon.
