Fishing Report - July 29, 2007
I got back out with Wayne & Kurt again this morning, and what an amazing morning it was! We had a NE wind blow just enough over night to move the temps around a little bit, so we ran out and set up bit shallower than we were the day before. We were running a Spin Dr./Fly program, and they sure did some damage! White or Dalmatian, Green, and Blue Spin Dr's all fired for us, and the best fly's behind those paddles were Sigg's Rigs in Blue Dolphin, Green Apple, and Maui. I feel like a broken record with those fly's, but they're just pounding the fish for us this year, so we keep putting them down.
We weren't set up for more than 5 minutes when the first rod fires. While Kurt is fighting that one, another rod fires and we're doubled up. As Wayne goes to work on that one, Kurt lands the first fish of the day. As soon as we get that fish out of the net another rod fires, so we're doubled up again. While Kurt works on his second fish of the morning, Wayne lands his first of the day. No sooner do I get that rod back in the water when ANOTHER rod fires. So Wayne is now on his second fish of the morning and we're doubled up AGAIN. Kurt lands his second fish, and then shortly thereafter Wayne lands his. So we're now 4 for 4 and off to a much better start than the day before....no more "drops" for these guys...they were on a mission today! We get the carnage cleaned up and get the rods all back in the water and loop back around to our waypoints. Not 15 minutes later we put fish #5 in the boat. We worked that area for another 15 minutes or so, and we boat fish number 6. Kurt and Wayne had their limit in the cooler by 7:45am. What a crazy, action-packed morning! Lake Ontario sure showed Wayne & Kurt what a world-class fishery we have here.

Best down speeds were 2.4-2.6 for us again today as registered on our Depth Raider. We were working 180-225FOW and found our best temps up at 70-80'. Riggers and wire divers all took fish today. The new Daiwa Accudepth Plus reels have been working beautifully as wire-diver reels. The drags are still super-smooth and we've been very impressed with them this season.
We had a great time with Wayne & Kurt over the weekend. Thanks for setting up the trip Wayne, and best of luck to you Kurt as you ship out to join the Navy. We'll be looking forward to hearing tales from the Navy when you get back out with us again next summer. Be safe and thank you for serving this great country of ours.
Until next time, tight lines!
