Fishing Report - August 4, 2007
I feel like it's June as I'm writing this...at least that's how the fishing felt to me this past weekend. I was joined by Tony, Andrew, Eddie, and Al for a couple of days of salmon fishing this past weekend. I knew that the fishing had slowed considerably over the past week, but we still went after 'em and brought home our fair share. On Saturday, NOAA weather radio had forecast waves 1-3 ft, which really isn't all that bad on our boat. I'm telling you, NOAA couldn't forecast yesterday's weather. We spent the majority of the day fishing waves that looked a lot more like 2-4 footers with an occasional 5 footer thrown in just for fun, and I'm sure that Al and Anthony would agree with me as they had a rough go of it on Saturday. But, I gotta give them props, they stuck it out all day long even though they looked pretty green at times!
The temps that were so scattered over the past week have finally begun to re-stabilize, but the fish were still pretty scattered. We found the temp break we were looking for down 90ft. We worked from 125 FOW out to 250 FOW on Saturday. We took fish on our Dalmatian Spin Dr./Blue Dolphin Siggs Rigs, the Maui Wowie, the JV Cheerleader, and on a new 8" R&R Salmon Assassin pulling a Green Hypnotist Siggs Rigs fly. Riggers wire divers, and copper all took fish today. Best down speeds were 2.4-2.6mph for us today. Here's a few pics from Saturday:

This is that 8" R&R Salmon Assassin that I mentioned above.

There really wasn't any set pattern to today's fishing. Fish were few and far between on the sonar, and we managed to take the fish we did becasue we had a gameplan and we stuck to it. Give these guys credit, they stuck it out today, worked hard, and managed to put some kings in the box. I think Al and Andrew were glad to see land again at the end of the day, but they no doubt were still pumped to get back out at 'em again on Sunday. We had a great day today even though the wind & waves made it a bit challenging for us.
Until next time, Fish On!
