Fishing Report - August 26, 2007
My brother-in-law Chris had such a great time when he fished with us this past July that he grabbed his buddy Jason and they hopped in the car and made the 12 hour drive from Kentucky back to Fair Haven for some more of what Lake Ontario has to offer. They arrived at the lake on Saturday afternoon only to find that their one day of fishing was forecast to be a blow-off day. I was really afraid that we weren't going to be able to get out on Sunday, so we hopped in the boat on Saturday evening and got out for a really short tip and got Jason his first King, which he promptly french-kissed for all of us to see.

Very nice Jason. You win best fish-kiss of the year for that one buddy!
When we got up on Sunday morning, it was definitely blowing hard out of the NW. Only one boat went out of the chute in the morning, and they were back at the dock pretty quick. So we decided to get some more sleep and try to wait it out. After a couple more hours of sleep it was still blowing hard, so we went to Gillis's for breakfast (best breakfast in town by the way). After breakfast, we stopped at several marinas in town and visited with friends. By the time we got back to our marina, it was noon and the winds had begun to lay down a bit. So at about 12:30pm we hopped in the boat and went out to the lake. It was a long slow trip out to 125 FOW. There were 4-5' rollers left over fom the wind. We got set up and within minutes we were hooked up. I spun us around and went back over that spot and we hooked up again. And that's how it went for the rest of the afternoon. We worked a VERY small piece of water with two other boats all afternoon and on almost every pass over this one spot we hooked up. Wire divers pulling Siggs Rigs flys and Spin Dr flashers on a #2 setting out 120' and riggers with Dreamweaver and Northern King spoons down 35', 45', and 55' all took multiple fish today. We landed a beautiful steelhead that had my scales on board bouncing right near the 10 lb mark so we decided to keep it and try to place it on the LOC leaderboard.

We took it up to the weigh station, and it officially weighed in at 9lbs 15 oz. One ounce shy of the minimum, but still a trophy fish for the boys from Kentucky.
We pulled the last of the lines around 5:00pm with big smiles on our faces. I definitely didn't expect the day to end up like this after that nasty wind. Just goes to show; you never know unless you get in the boat and give it a try. I sure am happy that Chris and Jason got into some fish today, and I'm definitely looking forward to that Whitetail bow-hunt with them down in Kentucky either this or next fall! Thanks for sticking it out with us this weekend guys. Hope to see you again next season.

It was a great week up in Fair Haven for us. Some days were better than others as far as the catch was concerned, but we had a great time with each and every group that we fished with. Thanks to all of you who joined us for choosing Billy V Sportfishing. We definitely appreciate your business, but more than that we're delighted to have you as our friends.
We still have a few more trips to run this season, so stay tuned for more reports. I'm headed to bed to rest up for next weekend's adventures.
Until next time, Fish On!
