Fishing Report - Sept. 1, 2007

Today we were joined by Anthony and his crew of young fisherpeople.  When we met at the dock the wind was howling and we decided to give the wind some time to lay down a bit.  We waited an hour, but the wind was still crankin' from the N/E.  After talking it over and taking the kids into consideration, we decided to head out.  2-4's with an occasional 5 footer thrown in didn't deter us from getting out there, although it was a bit bumpy at times.  We worked really hard for the 9 bites we got.  The chrome Sharks with spoons behind them fished off of our Cannon Mag 10HS riggers ruled the day, getting bit 6 times.  The Shark/spoon combo has been really good for us the last few weeks.  Earlier in the season we were using flasher/fly combos behind the Sharks with lots of success too.  It's just been a spoon bite on them for us lately.  I personally don't believe what I've seen written about the Sharks not working with flasher/fly combos...we use Sharks all the time and believe me, they work with flasher/fly combos!  Best spoons on Saturday were a new Northern King Gold NBK (look for it in next year's Northern King catalog...I'll try and sneak a pic of it up here for you next week), and a prototype Dreamweaver Super-Glow froggy (I'm told this will also be a 2008 item).  Best depths were 60-70' down with 15 foot leads off the Sharks.  The best diver depths were 180' out on a 2 setting pulling a green Spin Dr. and a Siggs Rigs Green Hypnotist fly.  Biggest fish of the day was only 21#, but we were still smiling...fishing sure beats work!
The N/E wind really messed up the water so there really wasn't much of a temp break out there...just lots of water in the 50-60 degree range.  Marks were few and far between on our Furuno.  If you put in your time and pay close attention to details like down speed, down temp, color selection, and lead lengths, you'll put fish in your boat.
Sorry that I don't have any pics from today.      I walked off and left the camera sitting on my kitchen counter.

We had a great time with Anthony and crew.  Anthony, you're an animal on the rods and we'd love to  have you guys back on the Billy V again next year!

Here's that Dreamweaver Super-Glow Froggy again:

If anyone catches a big King and the fish has that spoon in his mouth.....can I please have the spoon back???  I only have one left and that thing has been killer for us lately!

Best of luck to those of you who get out the rest of the weekend.  I'm taking a couple of days off to spend some much needed time with my family over the long weekend.  Ahhhhh....sleep!

Until next time, Fish On!
