Fishing Report - September 9, 2007

Today Chris, Al, Trevor and Dan hopped on board the Billy V II for a day of Lake Ontario fun.  As soon as we got thru the chute, we felt that stiff N/E wind in our face and instantly knew that it was gonna be a rough ride out to the fishing grounds.  We took the slow, bumpy ride out to 135FOW and began to set up.  Before we could get all of our rods in the water we were hooked up.  And then we hooked up again, and again, and again, and again!  We had set up over a ton of active, feeding fish and we were reaping the bounty.  We boated a quick 4 fish in the first 30 minutes of the morning, and then the waves began to take their toll on Trevor and Dan.  I could see that they were feeling pretty green, and before we started to get set back up from our morning flurry we decided that the best thing for these guys was to get them back on shore so they could start feeling better right away.  Not that it's any consolation for them, but it was pretty rough and they appeared to have some of the worst sea-sickness I've seen all year.  So we pulled in the gear and headed back to the barn.  As soon as we got the guys on shore we pointed the boat back towards our waypoints in the hopes that the fish were still there and still feeding.  By the time we got back out and set up again, our marks had disappeared so we went into search mode and began a steady pick.  We had a run of five lost fish in a row.  Two break-offs after lengthy fights, one that went through the wire lines, and another that just spit the hook.  Disappointing to say the least, but at least we were getting some action.  At the end of the day we had a nice little flurry and boated one nice King and three skippers.  So that brought our tally to 8 for 13 for the day.  Not too bad considering we lost 60 minutes of the morning's hot bite.

It rained ALL day long, and at times it was raining so hard that we had to rely on our radar to navigate.  But give Chris and Al credit.  They happily stuck it out in less than ideal conditions and were rewarded for it!  Spoons ruled the day again today.  A Dreamweaver Super glow, an R&R watermelon w/grape dots, and those Northern King Gold NBK's (all 15-30' behind our Sharks) in green & yellow all got bit multiple times today.  Our only bites on flies were on a Siggs Rigs Blue Dolphin behind a white Spin Dr. out 210' on a #2 setting.

Even though we lost two of the crew to sea-sickness today, we still had a ball and thoroughly enjoyed our day on the water.  On days like these I sure am glad that we have a hard-top on the boat!

When the conditions are tough like they were today, patience and determination are key.  Way to stick it out today.  Thanks again for a fun day.  We look forward to fishing with you again next year.

Until next time, Fish On!
