2007 Season in Review
The 2007 fishing season certainly was one to remember. It started in mid-April with us running one last trip on the old Billy V when we pounded on the browns for a few hours. We had a fantastic day, but deep down inside we knew we were saying good-bye to our old friend Billy V.

That 24' Penn Yan sure was good to us and we miss her. After that we brought the new boat home and got down to business.
April, May, and June were incredibly good brown trout fishing months for us. We caught so many browns on some days that it was hard to keep track of them all. One day in particular will stick with me for a long time: Dad, Jay, Dave, Brian, Joe and I fished for 5 hours and boated something like 27 or 28 browns in late April. It was complete pandemonium from the moment that we put the first line in the water until the time we had to head in. We had multiple doubles, triples, and even a quad or two that day. Absolute craziness! Some of you should consider coming out for a charter in the spring of 2008 to help chase away the cabin fever that will have set in over a long, hard winter. It's an absolute blast to tie into a bunch of browns in the springtime! Here are some of my favorite brown trout pictures from the season:

Dave's KA-BOOM Shiners were the best stick bait for us all spring long, and out favorite spoons from Northern King, R&R, and Dreamweaver all helped round out the catch.
We got into quite a few nice steelhead this year as well. Here are my favorite steelie pics:

And of course we played with our fair share of kings this year too. The Kings showed up in Fair Haven in early July and from then on out we pretty much targeted them exclusively. Sigg's Rigs flys, Spin Dr. flashers and NK, R&R, and Dreamweaver spoons were the hot ticket for Kings for us this season with the flasher/flies accounting for over 60% our our catch. Our Cannon downriggers, Daiwa rods & reels, Shark Cannonballs, Depth Raider speed & temp probe, and our Traxstech rod holders all made life lot easier out on the water too.
We had our good days where we couldn't keep the rods in the water, and we also struggled to put 2 or 3 fish in the boat on a few days too. Mostly we had very consistent action all season long. I'm happy to say that we didn't have an 0-fer day this year. On our best King morning we went an incredible 15 for 16, and that was accomplished by 10:30 am by these two anglers:

Way to go guys!
We ended up heading in early that day because the fish wore these two out! I don't think Jay has ever worked as hard in the back of the boat as he did that day. The wind was blowing and I had to stay at the wheel to keep us over the fish, so he was all alone in the back of the boat while these two kept reeling them in. There were so many doubles that I lost track of the number of times it happened. I can't even imagine what the numbers would've looked like had we not needed to come in early. Our worst King day was a 2 for 3 outing in what is typically the best time of the year for us, Mid-August. Go figure. But that's fishing. The wind played havoc with us for a lot of the summer salmon season too. We'd get the temps & fish starting to set up and then it would blow like mad and mess things up and we'd have to start all over again. Such is Lake Ontario fishing. Here's more than a few of my favorite salmon pics from the year:

To me, it's more about the time shared with family & friends than it is about the numbers or size of the fish that we catch. Don't get me wrong....I love to catch a TON of BIG fish! But long after the fillets are gone, the memories that we have from our days on the water are what will last us a lifetime. We made many memories in 2007...thanks to you!
So there you have it, the 2007 season in a nutshell. We've already begun taking reservations for the 2008 season and I'm overwhelmed with the response from you, our returning customers. I never imagined that our little charter business would become so popular...It's hard for me to grasp, but we're nearly full for the 2008 season. My heartfelt thanks goes out to our many friends and customers. I'm touched by your eagerness to be involved whether it's chartering a trip, helping us with some project on the boat, sharing the latest fishing report or just sitting at the dock shooting the bull...your emails, calls and visits at the marina are all greatly appreciated. Please don't ever hesitate to say Hi...my visits with you are what makes this whole endeavor so worthwhile.
I'll be making entries here all winter long and I'll be sure to keep you updated on our whereabouts over the course of the winter, so be sure to stay tuned! My next adventure will be a chartered fishing trip out of Destin, FL next week where we'll be looking for lunker King Mackerel. I'll be sure to post pictures for you.
Until next time,
Fish On!
