2008 Reports

Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away....can you believe it??  We've been making snow over at Greek Peak, so ski season isn't too far off (Killington is already open and Hunter opens tomorrow!!) either.  We're coming into my busiest part of the year and I can't wait! I had a bunch of fun deer hunting this fall but I'm ready for ski season to get under way....bring on the snow!!

During the fall "lull" I've been thinking about the fishing reports from last year and was wondering what you would like to see from them next season.  I've tried to write a little bit about the trip in general and at the same time include some specifics on the tackle we've been running and the conditions we run it in.  If you don't mind, I'd like to ask each of you to respond to this post with your thoughts on the reports.

Should they:
-Be more focused on tackle, tactics, and techniques?
-Be more focused on stories & anecdotes from the trip?
-Include more pictures?
-Include fewer pictures?
-Give descriptions, reviews, and pictures of the tackle?
-Stay the same?
-Be longer and include more detail?
-Be shorter and include less detail?

If there's something specific that you'd like to see in the reports for the 2008 season, please send us a comment by clicking the "Add Comment" link at the bottom of this post and tell us about it.  I can't accommodate everyone, but I do want to make the reports page as useful as possible for you.  We're always striving to improve here at Billy V Sportfishing, and our reports are no exception.

We'll be heading up to Fair Haven next weekend to get the new fish finder head unit installed, as well as trying to accomplish a few smaller tasks.  The thru-hull transducer is scheduled to be installed any day now, so the fish finder should be good to go soon.  Once we get done this weekend, it'll pretty much be ski season for us and boat-related things will take a back seat to snow fun!

On a side note, I've decided to go with a larger screen for the new GPS/Chartplotter, so I'm going to sell the new Eagle I just bought.  I had this same model Eagle on the last boat and really liked it a lot, but given how much bigger this boat is, I think I want to have a bigger screen so I can see it easier from the back of the boat.  If any of you have a need for a brand-new Eagle Intellimap 500c at a great price, shoot me an email and we can discusss price.

That about covers it for now.  I hope you and your family have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Until next time,
Fish On!

~Capt. Bill

    Capt. Bill,
Living in Frostburg MD and pulling my 22' boat to Lake Ontario only 2-3 times per year, Ive found your reports very informative and enjoyable. Being a hard core troller myself, I very much like reading about the tackle, techniques etc. Ive been experimenting with light conditions, time of day, depth of water, condition of surface, versus lure color. Reports with this type of information would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Capt Bill, I trailer a 19 Islander from the Capital District. Before I head up I check the A-TOM-IK and GLA site for info. Your posts are very helpful regarding how deep the temp is (and if it has been moving up or down), what direction and down speed worked best and hot combo's. Part of the fun is figuring out a good program and hooking up. When you aren't on the lake every day, showing up blind is tough .Your posts sure help guide my decisions and help me get on fish quicker. With limited time and fuel costs thats "HUGE". The stories and pix are entertaining and I enjoy them, but it's the "meat & potatoes" info that help me.
I'm planing on leaving my boat up there this year. I fish out of Fairhaven in the spring, Oswego from July on. I mostly troll west out of Oswego so I'm thinking Fairhaven would be a good home port . Any info on docking and a place to put a camper would be appreciated.
Thank you for sharing info and helping to make my trips more successful.
