Breaking News!

With the 2008 season behind us, our focus has shifted to the 2009 season and I'd like to tell you about a major change in plans for us for next season.  It's always been my goal to put you on as many fish as I can, but this year was a very difficult one for the entire Eastern end of the lake.  Given the poor fishing in 2008 and my desire to put more fish in the boat on an every-day basis, we've decided to move our operation to the Western basin of the Lake in 2009.

In mid-April, we'll launch the boat in Fair Haven (we're storing it there this winter) and run it all the way down the lake to the Niagara Bar so that we can get in on the fabulous Salmon fishing that happens there for the month of May.  We'll fish out of Wilson for the entire month of May, then we'll move the boat to Oak Orchard for the remainder of the season.  If you've never fished the Niagara Bar area in the month of May, I'd encourage you to join us for a day or two in Wilson this year.  Those of you who fish with us in Wilson at that time of year will be treated to what is perhaps the very best salmon fishing on the entire lake all season long.  I've fished the area several times and all I can say is "WOW!".  If lots of salmon bites are what you're after, then you'll want to join us in Wilson.  If you're thinking that Salmon season isn't until August & Sept., think again!  The Salmon fishing starts early on the West end and May is the pinnacle of the season down there.  We're VERY excited about fishing Wilson in May; we'll be there on weekends and also for a full week from May 9-16th.  Please consider joining us for a trip there this year.  You won't be disappointed.  Here's a couple of pictures with typical May Kings from a trip I was on with some friends out that way a couple of years ago:

Once we get through the month of May in Wilson, we'll be moving the boat 30 miles back to the East to what will be our main port going forward, Oak Orchard.  Oak Orchard is located about 30 miles West of Rochester.  I've fished the Oak several times over the years and I've always been very impressed with the quality and quantity of fish that they catch there on a regular basis.  We'll be operating from the Oak on weekends from the first of June till the end of September.  If I was going to recommend a time of year for those of you wanting to fish the Oak with us, I'd recommend July or August.  You can expect outstanding Salmon and Steelhead fishing out of the Oak at that time of year with larger catches than we're typically used to on the Eastern end.

I expect that our May dates will be full in short order as that is an incredible time to fish, so don't wait to book your 2009 charter with us!
Oh, and be sure to check out our updated website here: Billy V Sportfishing.

We're very excited to announce that we're going to be where the fish are in 2009.  I sincerely hope that you'll join us.

Until Next Time,
Fish On!

Capt. Bill
